Eightfold: Brand identity

Role: Design, creative direction

When my former CRO approached me about doing some work for his new company, I felt honored that he tracked me down to help him on this project. The company changed its name from VolkScience to Eightfold and they were looking for a new logo to fit the new name. Initially they didn’t really have any specific ideas in mind for what they wanted, so I started to play with eight-sided shapes and abstract shapes that looked like the number eight. I also explored an option that looked like a series of lines and tickmarks that formed the letters E and F for Eightfold. They liked the direction of two of the logos so I started to drive further down this path.

After thinking things over the company wanted to explore options that included visuals related to DNA and the infinity symbol. I always strive to give my customers the best and worked to develop a series of new logo options. After reviewing the new options they really liked going with the direction of using an infinity symbol. What became a breakthrough moment was when I decided to set the infinity symbol at a 45-degree angle to somewhat resemble the number eight. With the addition of a few strategic breaks in the infinity shape, I successfully combined an eight and the letter F to represent the Eightfold name. This became the winning design that they fell in love with.
